Connxus maintains health information in its role as a Health Information Exchange (HIE) for Central Texas patients. In this role, Connxus is a business associate of healthcare providers and health plans.

Connxus also coordinates care for certain patient populations but is not a covered entity under HIPAA. Connxus does not maintain a separate electronic health record—it accesses and passes through health information held by other stakeholders and this information is subject to electronic disclosure for purposes authorized or required by state or federal law.

At present, Connxus is not licensed by any Texas agency.
